Bank Negara Malaysia's Banknotes Snapped Up Within A Day

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - The recently concluded Twelfth Auction of 4th Series Malaysian Banknotes with Special Serial Numbers saw intense bidding action among the numismatic collectors.

All 231 lots were displayed and hammered online, as bidders from Malaysia and abroad set and clocked in their bidding amounts on their laptops and other mobile electronic devices. The online auction was also broadcasted live by MNP Auctioneers Sdn Bhd on their Facebook page while others watched the auction live on best2bid.com.

There were five lots which were auctioned off each for RM 40,000 and above with the highest price paid being MYR 52,000 for a RM1 banknote bearing the serial numbers KB1111111-9999999 & KB10000000 and the signature of Malaysia Central Bank's previous Governor, Tan Sri Muhammad Bin Ibrahim.

The winning bid amount of RM52,000 was 130 times its starting bid price of RM 400

"We are delighted to receive such a tremendous response from the bidders especially as everyone has to cope with the challenges and restriction posed in the current economic environment. We commenced online bidding a week earlier, and noticed that all the lots were snapped up almost immediately. This shows that the numismatic collectors have a keen eye for exclusive banknotes," Stephen Soon, Managing Director of MNP Auctioneers Sdn Bhd commented.

The online event witnessed approximately 200 bidders competing against each other from morning till evening for The Central Bank of Malaysia's rare banknotes.

"We noted bidding activities from countries from our neighbouring region and those as far as the UK and USA in this event. The convenience provided by best2bid.com allowed these banknotes enthusiasts to bid online from all around the world and monitor the auction in real time. We would like to congratulate all the winners and our team will be liaising with them on the delivery and collection of the lots soon."

There is another numismatic auction by the popular auction house which is happening this weekend so don't miss out to register and place your bids.

MNP's Banknotes and Coins Series 9th live auction (online) is on Saturday, June 5th 2021.
