Bonhams’ London is hosting an online-only auction dedicated to the luxury French fashion brand Chanel from Feb. 5-16.

More than 200 pieces are offered in the sale, dubbed The Chanel Collection, ranging from clothing and accessories to handbags and jewelry. Many pieces are unworn and come with original tags and labels, according to Bonhams.

“It’s the finest selection of Chanel that I have had the pleasure to handle,” says Meg Randell, head of Bonhams designer handbags and fashion department.

“Despite being over 100years old, Chanel remains one of the world’s most desirable luxury brands,” she says. “One of the reasons for its enduring popularity is that many of Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s original designs continue to inspire current Chanel collections.”

The collection includes more than 90 items of Chanel clothing from the classic tweed suits and jackets to dresses and jeans. Many are from “ready to wear” runway shows and all date from2010 onwards.

Among the highlights are a black-and-white knitted evening dress from the Fall 2012collection with a starting bid of £300 (US$408), and a white fleece cropped jacket with blue-and-black metallic trim and silver tone buttons, with a low estimate of £400.

The sale also features 19Chanel handbags, including a blue metallized medium boy bag from Chanel’s 2014Paris Dallas Collection, with an estimate between £2,500 and £3,500, and a limited-edition Lesage Tweed bag with glass beads, stone embellishments, and small brass chain hardware, which is expected to fetch between £2,000 and £3,000.

The jewelry includes Chanel's trademark chain belts, pearls, and “double C” motif. Highlights include a black lace-and-chain choker from Spring 2009, with a starting bid of£400, and a pair of gilt rope twist CC drop earrings from 2003, with an estimate of between £200 and £300.

Bidders can request a condition report, enhanced images, and video footage of all the lots from the Bonhams specialists during the online sale, the auction house said.

Bonhams established its designer handbags and fashion department in January 2020 in response to the increased interest among collectors—especially young collectors and female collectors—in luxury fashion and handbags.
