DESCRIPTION Late 19th Century or Early Republic of Chine Period (1870-1899) Dimension: 3 teacups each with 8cm wide Indicative Price: RM 2,800 These three teacups are rare in the Peranakan community. Not typical as it is decorated with wisteria, grapevine and peonies and a magpie perching on a branch, it is most likely painted with turquoise blue. It is so-called ‘Tzu Hsi Style’ because the Empress Dowager, Tzu Hsi, commanded that a set of porcelain wares intended for her sixtieth birthday should be painted in this manner. Two teacups have the reign iron-mark of “Tong Zhi Nian Zhi” (????) and one with “Guang Xu Nian Zhi” (????). Possibly apocryphal reign mark. Good condition. |
